The really nice and friendly people behind Sugalight!

Sugalight's sugar-free ice creams are made on-site and were the result of intensive in-house research and development.
The conventional sugar is replaced by a natural premium sweetener called Xylitol.
Xylitol has zero net carbs, prevents tooth decay and is the healthier choice even as a sweetener for your regular coffee and tea. According to Sugalight's staff, customers who are slightly diabetic have tried their ice-cream and apparently, it does not cause their blood glucose level to spike after consumption. Definitely an option for people watching their sugar in-take. Guilt-free ice cream!

Photobucket
Sixteen different flavours for you to choose from! We asked the staff what are some of their favourite flavours and they are Cookie Monster(cookies and cream), Mint and Durian!

We tried many of their flavours and I really liked the durian one! Haha

Each scoop of icecream is only priced at $3! And $5 for double scoop!

My cappuccino icecream!
The icecream is smooth and yummy. It isn't too sweet and it's really ideal for people who think that most icecream out there are too sweet! My grandma is a little on the diabetic and high blood pressure side and she tries to refrain from too much sweet stuff. I brought home a tub of cappuccino icecream from Sugalight and she liked it! I've gotten her other premium ice-cream brands before but she always found them too sweet. This time, it suits her taste buds just fine.

Photobucket
Strawberry Bliss!
X liked his strawberry icecream! You would expect ice-cream without the usual sugar to be a little on the tasteless side but no. On the contrary, the ice-cream has a rich strawberry flavour minus the sweet aftertaste.

If you find Joo Chiat too far away for you, Sugalight offers free home delivery for orders above S$50 islandwide! They have been awarded the Health Promotion Board's Healthier Snack Symbol and they are currently in the process of obtaining the healthier choice logo for their ice-cream!
Do head on down to Sugalight for healthy guilt-free icecream!

Thanks for having us Elgin! (:

Toby's Estate

What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than to have brunch along this beautiful stretch at Robertson Quay? That's what we thought. So we headed to Toby's Estate for brunch!

Meet Mister Mocha Rayban haha
Iced mocha - $6.50
Well-known for their coffee, this mocha did not disappoint!

Eggs, salmon with brioche -$12

I wanted the poached egg with smoked salmon on brioche but they were out of poached eggs .. ):
So I had to settle for scrambled egg. The scrambled egg was pretty sturdy and not quite like those messy and soft ones. The brioche was nice and crispy but I had difficulty cutting it haha. This dish was simple but comforting and satisfying.

Photobucket
Toby's breakfast -$16
they were out of tomatoes so they gave us more bacon and mushrooms! I thought that the bacon was too tough. Other than that, everything was pretty average but I like the sturdy scrambled eggs haha.

Photobucket
Hot Chocolate - $5

Photobucket
This is definitely one of the better hot chocolates around. Served at an almost perfect temperature, I was enchanted by its taste and texture. It's smooth, not too thick and it leaves an aftertaste that leaves you yearning for more.

We had a pretty pleasant dining experience at Toby's. Nice place to chill although I felt a bit uncomfortable at the huge communal table as we were inevitably caught in others' conversations. Would have loved to have a table outdoors! Oh anyway, the water that is served is purified by themselves to conserve the environment! Really cool isn't it!

Gst is included in the prices that you see on the chalkboard menu. There's no service charge so what you see is what you pay. Parking spaces are available along the road outside Watermark.

Do share your experiences at Toby's with us!

Five & Dime Eatery

This was our fourth visit to Five & Dime, after 3 unsuccessful ones (the kitchen was closed, they were closed for cny function, full house...) X didn't want to come back anymore HAHA what a petty little kid. This time round, we made a reservation 2 days in advance for brunch on Sunday! All prepared haha.

Located along River Valley Road, Five & Dime is eye-catching and easy to spot!

Parking is available right behind the eatery

Five & Dime is not big but it's spacious enough.
You wouldn't feel like you're too close to the table next to you

Salty Caramel Cupcake- $4
I really liked it! It was sweet and really quite salty haha. Great mixture of flavours.
The salty caramel lies on top of the cake base which is yummy on its own.

Photobucket
Hot chocolate - $6
The hot chocolate arrived shortly after we placed ours orders but it was a little disappointing as it was not warm/hot enough. Taste wise, it was quite good!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Corned beef hash- $16
The toast was crisp and it was a pure, simple delight dipping it in the runny eggyolk.
The potato was a little spicy but it went well with the bacon and fragrant beef.
The portion was really generous.
Underneath the eggs was yummy corned beef hash, yummy corned beef hash and more yummy corned beef hash.
I was really full even though I didn't finish everything!

Photobucket
Eggs Benny -$16
X loved it! And so did I.

Photobucket
The seared beef which was soft and delectable, together with the poached eggs which were cooked to PERFECTION, and hollandaise sauce which was flavourful but not overwhelming on the croissant-like soft bread, stole X's heart. This was in really simple terms, heavenly.

X doesnt usually eat rockets but he cleaned the rockets up as he said they were drizzled in a really delicious sauce. The fruit salad which consists of grapes, strawberries, kiwi, and bananas were also sitting in a unique dressing that made them so palatable that X ate two bowls of them hahaha.

The eggs ben that we get at other eateries usually only feature 2 poached eggs and ham on english muffins. They were more often, than not, not filling. Five & Dime's Egg Benny comes with a side of spicy potato and ham, salad and fruit salad and this dish is exremely filling!

Indeed!

We really liked Five & Dime! The food is really awesome, the ambience is nice and we appreciate the amount of thought and effort that has been placed into the decoration and setting! X liked the unique cutlery that they have and how they have colourful cups and fruit salad bowls to add a dash of colour and liveliness. The service staff were attentive and pretty efficient. Omg I really want to have their Eggs Benny now. PERFECT.POACHED.EGGS. They are to die for.

We're gonna be back for dinner soon!!

Epicurious (The Quayside)

It was an extremely bad afternoon for us as we travelled to Five & Dime to find that it was closed, then to Toby's Estate to find that their brunch has ended, then to eM by the river to find that their brunch has ended too. And finally, we decided to go to Epicurious even though we both never enjoyed the food on our previous visits. However, we were pretty much left with no choice. We really wanted to have poached eggs and breakfasty items.

So here we were, at Epicurious.
It was pretty packed and we didn't want to sit indoors due to a really strong smell of oil. So we stood around waiting for a table.

We were really disappointed to hear that they've ran out of poached eggs. But we weren't in the mood to travel anymore.
We waited for about 30minutes for our food after we placed our orders.

Two Eggs, scrambled or fried - $8 + $2.50(salmon) + $3.50(sausages)
X added smoked salmon and sausages to the dish. Everything about this dish was pretty average, nothing fantastic.

Baked eggs with Toast soldiers, with ham - $14.60
I ordered this and I really regretted. The baked eggs had a top layer of cheese crust which was pretty burnt and hard. All I could taste was bitterness. I thought it was supposed to be baked till it's gooey? I wasn't able to taste any tomato that I suppose was to sweeten this dish up, alongside the bitter eggyolk and burnt cheese, the whole thing was just bitter to me. I finished the bread, potato and green apples and left about half the baked eggs uneaten.

The prices are pretty affordable but honestly, I don't think that their food is tasty. I've been here before with a couple of friends for lunch. They also felt that the food was not too good. And X had tried the Epicurious at Railmall and he didn't quite like the food there either.. Service was okay, it can be quite difficult to get the attention of the staff though. Parking is available at the Gallery Hotel or by the road a short walk away.

It's quite a good place to chill and people-watch on a lazy weekend afternoon but it sure can get a little too warm. If you're visiting, don't have too high an expectation of their food.
