CAPASSO - Modern Italian Restaurant With Unique Pastas & Well-Executed Meats

Capasso italian restaurant singapore

CAPASSO is the new kid in the Telok Ayer/Amoy area which is already home to countless restaurants and bars. Helmed by Chef Fernando Arevalo, a familiar name in the local food scene, CAPASSO is a fearless and bold outfit that pushes out contemporary Italian dishes inspired by memories of Chef Fernando's granddad. The restaurant, which also boasts an extensive selection of wines, whiskies, and yummy cocktails, strives to provide an equal space where women can explore and enjoy whiskies alongside their male counterparts. I love that CAPASSO understands and values the tastes of ladies, and is here to smash the stereotype of whiskies being a drink more suited to the palate of men. Hurray to that!

Path Restaurant - Singapore's Best New Restaurant in 2022

Path Restaurant Singapore Must Tries

Opened by Chef Marvas Ng, who has served French fine dining for more than 10 years in China and Hong Kong, in partnership with 1855 F&B, Path Restaurant at MBFC is the latest, and most exciting, addition to our food scene. The elegant restaurant is dressed in muted shades, and illuminated by lights that bring about a romantic ambience, and relaxing vibe come evening time. The gentle swirls and curves on the ceiling are inspired by topography, and the different layers signify the different depths that you will experience in the modern Asian cuisine at Path. As with a topography map, where various paths are mapped out, diners can explore different paths by curating their own set lunch, and opting for different dining experiences — in the private room, or at the Chef's Table right in the thick of the action.

Basque Kitchen by Aitor - A Mediocre $218++/Pax 8-Course Dinner at This One-Michelin-Starred Restaurant

basque_kitchen_by_aitor_singapore
One-Michelin-Starred Basque Kitchen by Aitor has been on my to-dine-at list for the longest time so when we were planning for our Christmas dinner, I suggested coming here. We made a reservation about a month in advance. Then, the a la carte and usual dinner menu were still available on the site. However, on the day of our visit on 22nd December, we were told that only the festive menu is available. We were taken aback because we were not informed of this, and did not plan on spending $218++ or $278++ pax for dinner. We had wanted to try the signature txuleta and other a la carte dishes, and were even considering the $148++/pax menu. This came as quite a rude shock to us to be honest but since we were there, and had already paid a $200 deposit, we had no choice but to continue on with dinner.

NIXTA - Impressive New Mexican Restaurant on Amoy Street (They Have the Best Churros in Singapore!)

nixta_amoy_street_blue_label_mexican_singapore
Taking over the spot that Ding Dong occupied for years is Nixta, a new upscale Mexican grill and Bar brought to you by the same folks behind the well-loved Blue Label Pizza. While the restaurant has been around for a couple of months, little has been spoken about them online, and they don't even have a geotag on Instagram! We discovered it a few months ago as it caught our eye as we were just strolling past. We browsed the menu then, and made a mental note to return some day. And here we were.

(RELOCATED AGAIN)Hashida Sushi Singapore - An Unforgettable Omakase Experience

photo Hashida Sushi Omakase 3.jpg
My omakase experiences have gotten, progressively, more expensive. While I was deliberating on where I should bring my best friend for a celebratory omakase meal, I consulted Rubbish Eat Rubbish Grow on his thoughts on the biggest names in the Japanese cuisine scene in Singapore. Here were my options : Shinji, Shoukouwa, Hashida, Tatsuya, Jiro. Nat very patiently went through every option with me, and it was a no-brainer. Hashida, it was. I made a reservation online for lunch on a weekday and made my way to Mandarin Gallery with a racing heart.

Hashida Sushi was first opened in Tokyo, in 1966, by Master Sushi Chef Tokio Hashida. His son, Kenjiro Hashida, is at the helm of Hashida Sushi Singapore.

Solo Ristorante - A Disappointing First Visit to This Highly-Raved Italian Restaurant on Amoy Street

solo_ristorante_wagyu_carpaccio
Heard a great deal about Solo Ristorante from fellow foodies and decided to bring my friend here to celebrate her birthday. It was a Sunday night and they seem fairly busy, and also short-staffed. It was difficult getting the attention of the staff once we were seated. Menus were not provided, the wine we chose was sold out, and it took us like 10 minutes to get someone's attention to place an order for another bottle of wine, only to be told a few minutes later that it's also sold out. We also had to ask for our bread to be served long after the server said that she's going to serve us bread. Not a great start to the meal to be honest, but the server was warm and smiley, and tried to strike some small conversation so I was hoping that the meal would still go well.

Cheek Bistro - One-Michelin-Starred Modern Australian Restaurant With Great Food at Affordable Prices

cheek_bistro_one_michelin_star_singapore_dinner
Formerly known as Cheek by Jowl, Cheek Bistro is still run by the same husband-and-wife duo. They have changed their name, and switched up their prix fixe menus for a la carte menus. I've never been to Cheek by Jowl but I remember looking at their menu multiple times. I was glad that they've introduced a la carte menus which allow diners to pick their desired dishes, of course, and the a la carte options make dining here more affordable. I would say that you will definitely be getting your money's worth at this One-Michelin-starred restaurant that's belting out great contemporary Australian cuisine.

LeVeL33 - Value-For-Money Executive Set Lunch at World's Highest Urban Microbrewery

level33_mbfc_weekday_lunch_set

Perched on level 33(of course) of MBFC, LeVeL 33 is the world's highest microbrewery. Setting up of this place was a real tough job because the giant tanks required for the brewing of the beer couldn't fit into the elevators. Imagine the amount of work needed to lift numerous tanks up by cranes to the 33rd floor! Talk about dedication! Apart from brewing their own beer, the brewery does pretty solid food, and might possibly be best known for its spectacular view of the Marina bay area, where crowds most often gather for fireworks display come New Year's Eve or National Day. LeVeL33 is also known for their value-for-money Executive Set Lunch which runs from Monday to Friday.

Restaurant Gaig - Delicious & Reasonably-Priced Catalan Cuisine in Singapore

Gaig_Singapore_menu_paella
Restaurant Gaig is not widely reviewed, and it certainly is a secret that's been very well kept. And I can totally understand why. Loyal fans will want to keep this place a secret, for sure. I am actually even hesitating, as I'm drafting this. Do I really want to hare about this hidden gem? Well, I guess, it's only right of me to share good things right?

Avenue 87 - New Modern Asian Restaurant on Amoy Street

avenue87_amoy_st_singapore

Avenue 87 is the newest kid on Amoy Street, and the brainchild of 2 Singaporean boys, Glen and Alex, who were born in 1987, and who grew up in Hougang Avenue 8 and 7 respectively. Hence, the name Avenue 87 seemed more than apt. With strong culinary backgrounds and stints at reputable dining establishments, the two came together again after their last working partnership at Tippling Club years ago. Even though Glen is based in Shanghai at the moment, he and Alex managed to work seamlessly together, virtually, to craft the modern Asian menu which is inspired by familiar flavours of childhood and their favourites dishes. The duo elevates local favourites with finesse and contemporary takes, while using ingredients from local and regional partners Are you ready to go on a nostalgic journey with Avenue 87?

(CLOSED)Maggie Joan's - Turning 3 with a New Chef and New Menus!

 photo Maggie Joans mediterranean.jpg
If you're a foodie, you'll definitely have, at the very least, heard of Maggie Joan's. Well, it was my first time here, and I have to say that I was blown away. Chef Seumas Smith, the new head chef, has popped over from Moosehead, and is now at the helm of Maggie Joan's. I really like the food at Moosehead, so I know that I was in for a treat at Maggie Joan's too. Using the finest seasonal ingredients from artisanal producers in the creation of every dish, where every component is made from scratch, Chef Seumas brings out the best of every ingredient in his own magical way. I assure you that you'll walk out of Maggie Joan's utterly satisfied, and already planning for a return visit.

Zafferano - New Dishes from Chef Emanuele Faggi

 photo zafferano cbd.jpg
Chef Emanuele Faggi is young, creative, and absolutely brilliant. The new head chef of Zafferano, a Tuscan native, has had stints at famous restaurants(including 2-Michelin-Starred Cracco Ristorante), before taking over the kitchen at Zafferano. Chef Faggi makes sure that only the freshest produce is incorporated in his dishes, and cleverly marries seasonal produce and authentic Tuscan flavours with contemporary touches. Chef also firmly believes in the reduction of food wastage, and ever since his arrival at Zafferano, the restaurant has seen a 70% reduction in food wastage. Amazing, isn't it? "How does Chef Faggi do it?" You might ask. Well, food discards are made into powder, seasoning, or used for plating! Intrigued? You need to try his new additions to the menu then!

EN Sakaba - Hotpot Buffet with FREE FLOW A5 Miyazaki Wagyu & Zuwai Queen Crab

 photo En Sakaba Hotpot Buffet.jpg
EN Sakaba should be quite a familiar name by now. With multiple outlets across the island, the modern izakaya has attracted throngs of people with an attractive array of Japanese dishes that include chirashi don and yakiniku don. However, do you know that the best thing that EN Sakaba has to offer is actually their hotpot buffet which comes with a free flow of A5 Champion Miyazaki Wagyu, Zuwai Queen Crab, and Iberico Pork? This buffet was previously priced at $108 but is now going at just $78/pax. It's basically an insane deal that will leave you utterly satisfied and rubbing your tummy in glee.

(CLOSED) Le Binchotan - Amazing Japanese-French Creations with a Rich Smokiness

photo Le Binchotan uni  caviar.jpg
Le Binchotan has been around for awhile now, but the new chef-owner, Jeremmy, who have had stints at Iggy's and Sola, has refreshed things, injected more goodness into the food, and is bringing even more to the table. The name Le Binchotan is a combination of a French word, and a Japanese word, and this captures the essence of the restaurant perfectly. The restaurant specialises in Japanese-French flavours that are elevated with a trademark smokiness that can only be achieved with the use of binchotan, a rare and expensive charcoal.
