    My Fat Lady

X and I were at Haji Lane shopping for new year clothes when we chanced upon My Fat Lady and I went OH!!! Hahaha I've always wanted to try it but have never gotten down to it. Here's my chance!

    Photobucket

I walked into the little shop excitedly to find that there were only a few cupcakes left on display.. ): They must be really popular!

They don't have a seating area but they have a small wooden table outside the shop for customers who don't mind enjoying their yummy desserts while standing.

    Photobucket
I chose the rich chocolate one -$3.50
It was pretty good! The first few bites were really yummy.
But I got a little sick of it as the chocolate was too rich for me.

    Photobucket
    Sticky date cupcake - $3.50
I liked this more than the rich chocolate one. It was moist and the combination of the cream cheese and the sticky date was quite addictive!

Do try their cakes and cupcakes if you're nearby! It was around 5 plus when we were there and almost everything was sold out. We've gotta be earlier next time!

    SocialHaus

This is the latest addition to the now extremely popular Yong Siak Street. With many good dining places in the area, this once neglected estate has come to life.

We were really excited to check out SocialHaus! X brought me there on a Sunday afternoon for brunch. When we got there, the staff told us that they do not have brunch as yet, and a brunch menu should be up in the coming months. We were disappointed and wondered if we should stay. We decided to give them a try and I'm glad we did!

This is all they have at the moment!

I love seafood pasta so I chose this!
    Seafood pasta - $14.50

    It did not disappoint!
The spaghetti was really well cooked and the ingredients were really fresh! And the sauce is yummy! Sweet and a little sour. I really liked it! The portion might be a little too small for some but if you want some good pasta, here it is!

    Photobucket
    Bob's burger - $15
X loves burgers so I knew he was gonna choose this for sure.

The beef patty was juicy! However, it was a little too raw. The burger has portobello mushrooms which complemented the patty well. As you can see, the burger comes with salad and shoestring fries!

The staff at SocialHaus are really friendly and welcoming. They're all smiles when they serve and I think that is really important. Another good point is that they don't charge gst and service charge! So we only paid $29.50 for this meal which was really worth it! Parking is readily available in the carpark behind Forty Hands.

I'd definitely be back to try their brunch! Do check them out if you're looking for a place where you can chill over a few glasses of cocktails and yummy food

    Ippudo Tao

Ippudo Tao is the result of a collaboration between Ippudo and Tao, a Japanese drum group. Having been to Ippudo at Mandarin Gallery a couple of times, I was pretty excited to see what Ippudo Tao has to offer.

X and I went there for dinner around 10 pm on a Friday night and we parked at UE Square. Parking charges were pretty killer I'd suggest that you park along the road if you can!

With basic colours of red and black covering the entire shop space and front, this outlet looks significantly different from the one at Mandarin Gallery. Pretty unique but it was a little too dark for me.

    Ippudo Pork bun! $3
I love it! The braised pork is so soft it melts in your mouth!

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
This is quite a bad picture I don't know why I didn't take a picture of the meat but of the veg instead haha

    Tao Kuro Tamago

This dish is part of the Ippudo Tao original ramen menu and it's unique to this outlet.
The noodles are thick and chewy and are supposed to symbolise the dynamism of Tao.
I didn't like the noodles that much though. They were a little too tough but the soup was pretty tasty!

    Ippudo Shiro Tamago
This is the original ramen which Ippudo is famous for!
However, X felt that the broth wasn't as tasty as the Tao Kuro's

    Image Hosted by ImageShack.us
    Ooooohhh look at that
I was a little disappointed though, as the egg yolk wasn't as runny as I'd expected it to be.

X and I love ajitamago, we each have 2 whenever we eat ramen! Haha greedy pigs.

It was a pretty good meal. The ramen took about 15 minutes to be served while the pork bun came shortly after we placed our orders. Service was quite good and they don't charge for their wet towels. Even though they're famous for their ramen, I felt that the pork bun was the highlight. We spent about $55 in total. A little steep but not too bad.

Check out Ippudo Tao if you're looking for ramen in an outdoor or more chill-out setting!

    The Marmalade Pantry (Stables)

We decided to head to Marmalade Pantry for brunch after sending Waffles to the groomers since it was pretty near. Located next to Rider's is the pretty restaurant which we felt is covered by too much greenery. Parking is free and readily available in the compound.

Having been to their old Holland Village outlet and the Ion branch many times, I know how good their cupcakes are. My favourite has gotta be limonata! Keeps me going back for more!

We were really excited to see what they have to offer for brunch.
Sadly, we did not choose any of the seven items they have on their menu.
We sure weren't gonna pay $19 for Eggs Benedict!

    Photobucket
    Hot Chocolate $7
It was raining so X ordered my favourite hot chocolate for me when I was snapping pictures indoors.
    Such a sweet boy.
Sadly, the hot chocolate wasn't very good.
There was too much milk and too little chocolate

    Photobucket
    Carbonara! $24
I'm not a fan of cream-base pastas as I tend to get sick of them after awhile.
But I must say that Marmalade Pantry's carbonara is pretty damn awesome!
I cleaned up the whole plate!
The poached egg is a really good addition to the carbonara.
Also, we liked the fried bacon strips! They were salty and crispy and added flavour to the pasta.

    Photobucket
    Crabmeat linguine $22
I've had this before and I liked the interesting taste the pine nuts add to the sweet crab meat!
So I recommended it to X. Haha
It was pretty yummy but there was too little sauce as some parts of the linguine were quite dry

    Photobucket
I've always had the cupcakes so we decided to go for something else this time round.
Having heard great things about their sticky date pudding, we decided to try it.
The sticky date pudding is moist and soft and it tastes really good with the icecream!
    Highly recommended! $14

We really adore the location of Marmalade Pantry at the Stables. We love places that are hidden away from the busyness of city life. Spending a few hours here having good food and desserts with your loved ones is really therapeutic. Although the prices are on the high side, this place is definitely worth a visit!
