Skyve Elementary Bistro & Bar

It was time for brunch with our clique and we decided to bring them to Skyve! Situated at where District 10 used to be, Skyve is not difficult to locate. However, if you're driving, do take note of which road you're supposed to turn into as it can get quite confusing! Parking is readily available in the compound.

We wanted to bring Waffles here for brunch before but they don't serve food in their alfresco area. Strange but yeah, that's what they told us.

Interesting menus

Photobucket
Iced Cafe latte - $6
We felt that the latte wasn't very fragrant, and the taste of coffee was largely absent.
Perhaps its due to the ice?

Photobucket
Cappuccino - $6
My friends said that this was not bad. However, the collapse of the foam hints of this cuppa being left at the counter for too long before it was sent to us.

Photobucket
Croque Madame - $14
Sunny side up, brioche, ham, cheddar cheese, tomatoes.

This was pretty good! The cheese melted in my mouth and the egg was perfectly runny. The ham was a little dry but ham and cheese will never go wrong! Also, the portion of ham was pretty generous. And everyone said that the sauce on the salad was delicious

Photobucket
Skyve Sous Vide Egg Benedict - $16
Sourdough, portobello mushroom, sweetcorn, argula salad, hollandaise sauce

The eggs were perfectly poached. Seeing the yellow yolk burst through delights me, always. Haha cheap thrill. The hollandaise seemed to have gone under the blow torch. The slightly crispy texture left us intrigued and satisfied. The hollandaise was good! The mushroom were a little burnt though. I thought the sweet corn was a wonderful addition as it added a sweet touch to this savory wonder.

Special spoon for you to scoop up the yolk!

Photobucket
Classic Breakfast - $20
Scrambled eggs, mushroom fricassee, pork sausage, tomato, brioche.

This was pretty ordinary. The brioche was pretty good. It was crispy but not too hard.
Other than that, there's nothing really worth a mention.

Photobucket
Mini beef burger - $16
Sunny side up, sesame seed mini bun, marinated sliced tomatoes, gherkins, cheddar cheese, bearnaise sauce.

Guest food taster N had been targeting this ever since she saw pictures online. HAHA. She was so excited to finally get to eat these mini burgers. According to her, it was really delicious. The beef was tender and it was drizzled in sauce that enhanced the taste of the beef. The size of the burgers were just right for her and last of all, the sunny side up was perfect.

Photobucket
Ricotta Hot Cakes - $14
Maple syrup, passionfruit butter, caramelized almond flakes.

The fluffy hot cakes were a little crisp on the outside and soft on the inside.Yum yum!
We all gave special attention to the unique passionfruit butter which was sweet and sour.
The caramelized almond flakes were crunchy and sweet and I really liked them

Photobucket
Hot chocolate - $6
My hot chocolate arrived only after all the main courses were served. I wasn't very pleased with that but thought that maybe the hot chocolate itself could salvage the lack of speed in service.
Well, I'm pretty particular about my chocolate and this hot chocolate tasted more like sweetened warm milk. Minus points.

Skyve seems to be good with eggs but not their drinks. The runny yolks of the sunny side ups and the poached eggs made us happy haha. However, they should really step up on their drinks and service. It can be pretty difficult to get the attention of the service staff and I had to walk to the counter to get a copy of the menu when we were contemplating if we should get dessert. And even when I went to get the menu myself, the staff had their differences over whether I could get the menu? I was really puzzled. The place is spacious and pretty chill and we spent a good 3 hours there.

Overall, my friends enjoyed the food and their time at Skyve. So the experience here was quite a pleasant one for us.

Brasserie Les Saveurs

Restaurant Week

This was our second destination for Restaurant Week! We managed to get a 10pm slot for dinner on a Wednesday night. Brasserie Les Saveurs is located in St Regis and I must really say that St Regis is very grand and beautiful! Situated on the first level, Brasserie Les Saveurs is not difficult to find at all.

It was pretty dark and it was difficult capturing pictures of the food so pardon us for the lousy pictures!

Bread and butter. The butter was light and I really liked it!
The bread was too hard though.

Complimentary starter!
Tomato puree with mozzarella cheese

Photobucket
Foie Gras Terrine- Duck foie gras terrine with roasted figs, balsamic vinegar and mesclun salad.
I'm a fan of foie gras so I really liked it! The balsamic vinegar added the right tinge of sourness to the foie gras and it was a delightful combination. Brioche was served along with the starter and I like how the simple brioche evened out the strong taste of the foie gras. Really yummy

Photobucket

Photobucket
Filet De Boeuf - roasted beef tenderloin, polenta sticks, sucrine salad, tomatoes, olives and red wine sauce.
The beef was pretty tender and was delicious with the red wine sauce. Beef and red wine sauce is always a winner! The polenta sticks with a salty and tasty coat and a plain centre were interesting. I liked the contrast in taste and I finished all the polenta sticks haha.

Photobucket
Vivaveau en piperade oven baked red snapper - with parma ham and herbs coulis
The fish was fresh and soft. The mixture of parma ham and fish was another contrast of flavours and we both felt that it was unique and tasty.

Photobucket

Photobucket

Chocolat - Trio of chocolate mousse with coffee icecream in pepper anglaise sauce.
The chocolate was rich, smooth and good. I liked the coffee icecream which provided a lighter edge to the dense chocolate. The coffee taste in the icecream is not overwhelming and does not shadow the taste of the chocolate mousse.

Photobucket
Pomme Verte- Slow baked apple with calvados custard cream green apple sorbet
The green apple sorbet does not possess the green apple sour and we couldn't decide if it was good or bad haha but I liked the sorbet as it is! The slow baked apple was flavourful and soft and it goes well with the sorbet. This was a lighter dessert as compared to the chocolat

Overall, we had a pleasant dining experience at Brasserie Les Saveurs. The place is pretty and the food is good. Will love to come here in the day time someday. Service was efficient. However, we were rushed into making our orders as they were closing. We were punctual and took our seats at 10pm. I felt that they should not have rushed us into placing our orders if they chose to open up the restaurant that late. Well, but we can't complain much as food was served quickly. Although efficient, the staff seemed cold and gave us the impression that they were not really willing to serve us.

For the price we paid, I would say that it was a steal to be able to dine here as their usual dinner menu is pretty expensive. If you're a fan of French fare and strong contrasting flavours, you definitely should give Brasserie Les Saveurs a go.

(CLOSED) Salt Grill & Sky Bar

Restaurant Week

We headed to one of the most famous and popular restaurants in Singapore! Salt! We were really excited that we managed to get a reservation at Salt [:

Our reservation was from 6-8 and we were pretty excited about being able to experience a change in the ambience of the restaurant as night falls.

Yummy raisin, and plain bread with tasty nuts and olive oil [:

Photobucket
Sea Tasting Plate
This was truly remarkable. The slices of raw fish were bursting with flavours.

Photobucket
Blue fin tuna with a little mustard.
This was my favourite out of the lot.
Too good, too good.
Wish I could have more.

Photobucket
Yellowtail king fish from Aussie, carrying a mild fragrance of shallot and ginger and topped with some cheddar cheese
Photobucket
This was the only warm and cooked item and it was fresh and juicy.

Photobucket
Maori Lakes Beef Tenderloin - grilled with celeriac puree, beans, and spices
The beef was extremely tender and a true delight!
It had a tinge of sweetness and it was so soft it felt like it was melting in my mouth
The puree was delicious too.
This dish was really pretty damn impressive!
We loved it!

Photobucket

Photobucket
Barramundi fillet - in coconut broth and sydney spices
The fish was soft and smooth. The coconut broth, however, was too overwhelming. Although the coconut broth was strong, the fish does not lose its own taste.

Photobucket

Photobucket
Coconut lime sorbet and mango sorbet
X and I both liked the sugar biscuit! Crunchy and sweet, we loved it!
The mango sorbet was thick and good. Although I'm not a fan of mango, I quite liked it
I didn't really eat much of the coconut lime sorbet as its taste was highly similar to the barramundi that I had earlier on.
We felt that the desserts were pretty simple, and nothing impressive

City lights

We really enjoyed our time at Salt. We couldn't stop staring out of the window (Thank God we had a table next to the window!) despite the windows being pretty dirty haha. Service was excellent. Once we took our seats, their staff offered to take pictures for us and they were efficient in providing a basket for my bag and taking our orders. It was a pleasant evening!
