Truffs

Truffs has my favourite chocolate cake, forever and always.

After Tom's Palette, Derrick, Nicole and I made our way to our second stop!
Our destination was Sophie Bakery, which was closed for maintenance. What luck!!! We almost fainted due to the heat and disappointment haha. Thankfully, Truffs is just a few steps away!

X and I have been wanting to visit Truffs ever since their new cafe was set up. Truffs didn't use to have a cafe space. You could only go there to purchase and pick up truffles and cakes. It's a brilliant move to finally have their own cafe! I bought two 3kg cakes($170 for one) from Truffs for my 21st birthday and everyone was asking me where I bought my cakes! I was so proud HAHAHA.

Here's revealing a pretty cafe that takes you away from the busyness of the city. I felt like I was in another country!

Truff's Signature Hot Cocoa - $6.5

 photo P3216577.jpg
Iced Chocolate - $7.50

Velvety smooth chocolate with dark chocolate bits. Best chocolate drink ever? Damn straight.

  photo P3216556.jpg
Truffs' Earl Grey Chocolate Tart - $7

I think this is sold at Five & Dime too! If I'm not wrong, I've had this there before haha. Very rich and smooth ganache carrying a subtle earl grey hint and topped with crunchy bits! Yummy! Having every mouthful melt slowly in my mouth is... indescribable.

Truffs' Chocolate cake - $11

I don't know if I was being too sensitive or what but I felt that the cake tastes different?? But its still good of course! The fluffy light sponge just puts a grin on your face. It's not overly rich and you will never get sick of this cake! This tall cake has managed to get the delicate balance of ganache and sponge right! It's really the best chocolate cake in Singapore! Haha. It's a really good idea for Truffs to finally have a cafe and sell individual slices of their signature cake because if not, I can only eat it if I buy a whole cake!

How my birthday cake looked like! The glossy dark chocolate cake looks so perfect that it actually pained me to cut into it HAHA.

Truffs' is truly a chocolate paradise. Do try their truffles! They're really good too. Truffs' is really my ideal place to spend an afternoon. Imagine a hot chocolate in hand, basking in the laid back and relaxing atmosphere, watching your favourite drama and just watching the world go by. Yay? [:

Club Street Social

After brunch at O'Batignolles, we walked about 20 metres to our next destination, Club street Social, for desserts!

 photo P3096395.jpg
We really like the tiles!

 photo P3096398.jpg
Warm and rustic.
Think the place will look prettier at night!

Club Street Social serves salads, soups, main courses, desserts and breakfast items such as French toast, yogurt and panini

 photo P3096408.jpg
Iced Latte

There are 5 choices for dessert and 4 of them were calling out to me.
It was a tough decision to make.

 photo P3096412.jpg
Lemon Tart - $7

X chose the lemon tart which was pretty good. Almost the right balance of sweet and sour but I feel that the crust could be better!

 photo P3096420.jpg Milkbar Salted Caramel S'mores - $8

Because I love salted caramel and s'mores very much, I picked this instead of the nutella bread pudding. I didn't know what to expect but I was definitely disappointed when this arrived 15 minutes later. It was nothing like its name? There was no trace of s'mores and the salted caramel did not taste like salted caramel. This tasted like chocolate and condensed milk on toast. We didn't like it very much. I guess the only good thing was the huge portion, and we didn't finish it. Well, didn't think I was gonna have bread for dessert..

Service was quite good and the place is cozy and pretty chill. A little too dark for brunch though haha

O'Batignolles

X and I were on the way to Club Street Social for brunch on a Saturday afternoon when we drove past O'Batignolles and I saw "Brunch from Paris". That got me excited haha. O'Batignolles is located just about 20 metres away from CSS. After looking at the menus from both places, we decided to have brunch here before heading to CSS for dessert. Parking is available right outside the restaurant.

Isn't the shop front adorable! Can't wait for our trip to Europe this May!

Hot chocolate - $6.50

The hot chocolate tasted more like a warm glass of milk with a very slight hint of chocolate. I was definitely disappointed

Photobucket
Eggs Benedict (with Swiss Coppa) - $13

I asked if I could change my salad to something else and the server kindly offered bacon! The hollandaise was more on the bland side but the savory parma ham made up for it. Pretty small portion though

Photobucket
Eggs Pacifico(with Smoked Salmon) - $13

X thought the salad was quite good and the rest of the dish to be just average. Also, the pieces of smoked salmon were rather small.

Photobucket
Mini Pain Au Chocolat - $3

Photobucket
The pain au chocolat was crispy and fluffy but I felt it wasn't fragrant or sweet enough

Photobucket
Cute little bucket!

Service was good and the servers were really nice and warm. However, we had to wait for quite a long while before our food was served. The cafe is simple but cozy and it's a really nice place to relax and spend a lazy weekend afternoon just reading the papers or watching the world go by.

(CLOSED) One Kampong Bahru

Bakery by day, bar and bistro by night.

One Kampong Bahru has been making waves with its delicious and highly affordable baked goods, and now, its tapas are in the limelight.
Relatively new to the food scene, the 3-month old bar and bistro has been fully packed and reserved for private events since its opening.

The two-level bistro is not that easy to locate, especially since 3 of the boys(including X haha) were lost when driving there. They specifically requested that I include this in this post so that nobody gets lost like them hahaha. Do check the directions on your computers before you make your way to One Kampong Bahru because the maps on your phones will lead you to a dead end on Spooner Road!

Parking is available right beside the bistro, and around it. It is also easily accessible by public transport, with a bus stop just about 50 metres away.

Level 2 which was closed for a private event.
Isn't this space perfect for a nice and cozy gathering?

While waiting for the lost kids to arrive, I had a cuppycake
Photobucket
Chocolate Salted Caramel Cupcake - $3
Delicious? Yes.

Photobucket
Mini Cranberry Cream Scones - $2.50
I was a little surprised that the scones do not come with any cream but well, after eating it, I realised that there isn't a need for cream. The scones were nicely moist, fluffy and soft!

OKB's wine selection will leave you slightly irritated because you just can't decide which wine to have! Their selection is pretty huge and what's most irritating is the price of each glass of wine. At $7 or $8 per glass, you just want to have a glass of every single wine available! Well, we say... don't drive there, and just drink to your heart's content!

Photobucket
Baronnie De Coussergues - $7

Photobucket
Mohua Estate - $8

Photobucket
Domaine Coussergues Chardonnay - $8

The co-owner of OKB, Kenneth, taught us the correct steps to really taste and appreciate the wine and we were all looking at him in amazement and admiration only to not follow any of the steps that he taught us hahaha

Asian-fusion tapas that are created by OKB's Peranakan chef!
Photobucket
Seared Scallops - $10
U.S Sea Scallops, Buak Keluak Oil

Fresh, juicy scallops which were slightly sour

Photobucket
Hot Wings - $8
Midjoints, Belachan Butter Marinade

Crispy and fragrant wings!

Photobucket
Pork - $16
Baby Back Ribs, Mustard sauce, Ginger Mustard Greens

Photobucket
The ribs are to be eaten together with the strongly flavoured greens. The ribs are a little dry but the moist greens will make up for that.

Photobucket
Fish - $14
Turmeric and Dill Catfish, Vietnamese Pesto, Rice Vermicelli

The catfish was fresh and soft and I liked it! The rest of the dish was pretty simple and average.

Photobucket
Chicken - $14
Seared Breast, Laksa Leaf Beurre Blanc, Starfruit Pickle

We all know that chicken breast meat is hard and dry, but certainly not the one at OKB. The two big pieces of chicken are really tender and juicy! This dish is also refreshingly sour and its the first chicken-based dish that I've liked in a long time!

Photobucket
Beef - $18
U.S Angus Roast, Gula Melaka Glaze, Herb Garnish

This was definitely the highlight for everyone. The tough chuck cuts are soaked in a water-bath for 25 hours before they are cooked. And the end result? Unbelievably tender and succulent beef.

Photobucket
The gula melaka glaze was sweet and tasty and it won my heart instantly. And for one of our friends who doesn't like beef to actually like it, can you imagine how good it was? Divine.

Photobucket
Passionfruit Macarons - $2/piece

Fat and full macarons with tangy passionfruit curd!

Photobucket
Salted Caramel Macarons - $2/piece

Want a taste of heaven? Try these.
Every bite screams immense gratification! Too good.

Photobucket
Lemon Cream Tart - $3.50

A thick and hard crust filled with lemon cream that has gotten the delicate balance of sweet and sour right. Possibly the best lemon tart I've ever had! So good that X and I each bought another haha

Photobucket
74% Dark Chocolate Brownie - $2.50

A rich and heavy brownie with a thin crispy top layer. Its texture is quite different from the average floury brownies. Yum.

Photobucket
Red Velvet, Chocolate Chocolate, Strawberry Chocolate - $3 each

The red velvet was our favourite of the lot!

Photobucket
Salted Caramel Macarons, again
Because they were so good, we bought ALL of them HAHA

Photobucket
Cinnamon Sticky Roll - $2

Forget the sticky bun at B Bakery or Simply Bread. Here's the best cinnamon sticky roll ever! It is amazingly soft and its cinnamon sugar coat does not harden! And it is only $2?!

Photobucket Mini Cranberry Scones
Raspberry Jam Scone - $2

The prices of the baked goodies are really crazy affordable, don't you think! And they're so delicious!

Do make a reservation at OKB before you head down because they're almost always fully booked!

OKB is currently understaffed so service isn't exactly up to mark but I'm sure they're working on it.

Do let us know what you think of OKB!
