The Lokal

The Lokal has been a huge hit ever since its opening. Sitting on a quiet corner along Neil Road, this charming cafe wasn't difficult to locate. I was thrilled to finally be dropping by, especially after hearing a great deal about the wonderful service and food!

The combination of wood, patterns and recurring unique blue makes the entire place cozy, pleasant and comfortable

Open kitchen concept which I'm not exactly a fan of because I always smell like food when I leave the eatery. If you don't fancy an open kitchen concept too, you can choose to sit near the counter!

Just look at that monster of an espresso machine. Gorgeous

Had a chat with one of the owners of The Lokal and she's so friendly!

Iced Latte - $6.50
This is the first time I'm trying the coffee from Sarnies and I really liked it! Kudos to the baristas for doing it right too! This is certainly one of the best iced lattes out there! My favourite is from Mean Bean & Wicked Grind of course haha

Roast Beef on Rye - $19
A tasty and delightful symphony of roast beef, caramelised onions, watercress and grain mustard creme. I'm not big on rye, because its always pretty hard, but I loved how everything came together pretty perfectly.

Plate of Smoked Mackerel and Salmon, Pickles and Pita Bread - $22
An item that I wouldn't usually order but I've heard so much about this that I knew we just had to order it! Hot smoked over cherry chips in house, the smoked mackerel and salmon were flavourful, and tender with a nice crisp skin. Pairing the fish with the pita bread and potatoes balanced out the saltiness of the fish and I liked this dish more than I thought I would.

Iced Mocha - $7
Completed our three hour long catch-up with another glass of iced mocha which was good too!

Throughout our stay at The Lokal, there was this sweet fragrance of cinnamon in the air and I kept saying that I really want to try it, whatever it was. And guess what, my wish was granted because we were sent these freshly baked cinnamon cookies from the kitchen! They were rich in flavour but awfully hard. I felt as though my teeth were breaking from trying to bite into my cookie.. But we really loved the flavour! Thank you Chef, for the cookies!

I was really looking forward to the banana bread dessert but I didn't see it on the menu. Will definitely return to try it! The Lokal will be serving dinner and alcoholic drinks soon and I really can't wait to see what they have to offer!
