Kairyu Omakase - Best Sushi Omakase Restaurant in Singapore in 2026

I love sushi omakase but the prices in Singapore have gotten seriously out of hand. Even restaurants that are not michelin-starred are charging exorbitant amounts. If you're going after an omakase restaurant that's helmed by a Japanese chef, or award-winning, in a central area, be prepared to shell out at least $200++ for dinner. 

So imagine my delight when I discovered Kairyu Sushi Omakase ($148++ for dinner) by Chef Naoki Tsujioka and Chef Keizo Iwasaki as I was doing my research for my birthday celebrations this year. Given its price point, I did not expect the chefs at Kairyu to be Japanese, and I honestly did not expect too much from this meal BUT it's quite possibly the best sushi omakase in Singapore right now (in terms of taste, and value for money)!

Toro kama - INCREDIBLE

Murasaki uni - I prefer bafun uni which is sweeter, but this murasaki uni was really good too. It usually has a slight "bitterness" that's quite pungent that I don't quite fancy but this was balanced out quite well by the shari.

Service was wonderful — staff were efficient, on the ball, and attentive. They also celebrated my birthday with a birthday song and an additional lemon tart on top of a fresh fruit plate. It was quite disheartening to see that there were only 4 guests here for omakase. They definitely deserve to be full house every evening! They seem to have an izakaya concept on the ground floor which was quite packed. I might come back to try that, since it's just round the corner from Goodbye, Alibi!In a climate where sushi omakase is costing more than an arm and a leg, Kairyu is such a remarkable and refreshing find.
