Antoinette (Penhas Road) -Revisited

After what was a delightfully-surprising-jawdropping first trip to Antoinette, the Sun and i just have to revisit this awesome place. This time round, minus the novelty, the wow factor was still very much present. It must have taken them huge effort and thought to come up with the design for a place of such finesse.

On our very first trip to Antoinette , we had the Antoinette and Versailles cakes. They were delicioussss. This time round, i finally got to try their strawberry shortcake and the Sun had the Tarte Cafe Caramel.

The classic strawberry shortcake

The cream and sponge was such a delight in my mouth. One of the best strawberry shortcakes i have tasted. As long as the Sun is not having anything chocolate-esque, her standard shoots right up there like a true critic's level. hahah. Well, the Sun felt that the tart wasn't nice and she did not finish it. And I felt it was only alright.

There are really so many things there to try but its not possible to buy everything on one visit so i'm really looking forward to explore their other outlets at Mandarin Gallery and Scarlet hotel and to taste what i didn't on my first 2 visits (:

Epitome of class, opulent and fine dessert.

However, we did find the service there a bit lacking. The staff didn't bother greeting or acknowledging us when we entered. There was a serious lack of smile which made me feel like they were giving us the condescending look. The staff didn't feel approachable either. We like our service warm and bubbly. I think they should improve in this area.

Bonheur Patisserie

Photobucket

Bonheur patisserie is a relatively new patisserie that popped up in the desserts paradise which is the Duxton, Tanjong Pagar and Ann Siang area. It officially opened in december 2010 to join a list of patisserie like, Flor patisserie, K-ki , Patisserie Glace and others all within a 5 mins drive from each other. I have been wanting to try it ever since i did my usual food research online and was pretty fascinated by some photos of the cakes that i saw. I guess good photography really help to whet the appetite.

The first time we went there was on a sunday and it was closed! Thankfully there was Flor Patisserie nearby and their cakes more than made up for this disappointment! Determined to try bonheur's cakes, we went back once more on a saturday. The Sun and I were there around 8ish on a saturday and as they are closed for business on sundays , there weren't many cakes left to choose from. We ordered the banana pound cake, The Chocolate Cake and the caramel opera.

Caramel opera

The flavours of the cake on the first bite was a tad too strong then it became sweeter then the aftertaste of the caramel came which gave it a good finish. The taste of the cake grew onto me. Unfortunately, the cake was frozen as the staff just took it out from the chiller, hence, it was hard and i couldn't really enjoy the texture of my cake. I believe eating it in its optimal condition would have done the cake more justice.

The chocolate cake

The Sun is pretty particular when it comes to the food she puts in her mouth. Hahaha, so most of the time she will be the one having the good ol' chocolate cake. I like the chocolate mousse. But thats about it. Bonheur's chocolate cake for me is rather ordinary.

I would definitely wanna go back and try more of their cakes. Their dome tiramisu , strawberry balsamic, chocolate earl grey etc etc. Just thinking bout how those cakes will taste is giving me the urge to go there right this very moment. Speaking of which, i haven't had a proper nice cake as dessert in a pretty long time.

(The Sun: The Star forgot to mention that we were given a free slice of cake! I think there was a promotion going on. Buy 3 get 1 free! So we got another banana pound cake and gave it to our friend who liked it alot too. I don't know if the offer is still available but do enquire when you're there!)

Antoinette (Penhas Road)

The queen has recently descended at Mandarin Gallery and will descend again soon at The Scarlet. I think I'll always love the one at Penhas the most. I love where it is located. Quiet and exclusive. Antoinette just stands out so much from the shops around it. Can't help but fall in love with it at first sight.

Antoinette was so amazing it rendered The Star and I speechless.

As we drove past Antoinette, I was wowed over by its beautiful exterior. As we searched for a parking lot, I couldn't wait to get to Antoinette, I couldn't wait to see what was in store for the both of us. Antoinette did not disappoint at all.

With an interior so beautiful that The Star wanted it as his home, to say it's pretty, classy or elegant will be a total understatement. I can't find words good enough to describe the place but trust me, you'll love it.

The furniture, the pretty wall paper, the utensils, everything was so perfect together.

We were greeted somewhat warmly by the service staff who were dressed smartly and it kinda made the whole atmosphere classier. We felt like royalty. The extensive display of chocolates, macarons and cakes had the both of us gasping for air at the counter.

While I picked (as always), the chocolate cake, Verseille

Antoinette was an electrifying mix of earl grey and milk chocolate with a touch of raspberry. We love how they go so well together.

I love the Verseille too. The dark chocolate cake was really delightful.

The cakes are around $9 but they were worth every single cent. I even considered getting the Antoinette as my birthday cake haha. I called them up one day to enquire about the cakes and Chef Pang was really nice and helpful. Plus points for the friendly and talented chef.

Bought my favourite boy a marshmallow teddy cause he loves marshmallow

The Star loves pretty toilets hahaha and so as usual, he went to explore the toilet and couldn't stop praising it. I guess he really wants to stay there haha.

Even the toilet paper holder is classy. The gold complements the wallpaper really well don't you think so?

The cakes had us grinning from ear to ear as we savoured them. They had us feeling like we were in heaven and The Star was so happy haha. We love to end our days with awesome desserts. Even if the rest of our meals were disappointing, fantastic desserts will make up for them. It's time for you to head to Antoinette if you haven't already done so!

Love, The Sun
