Parco Caffe

Parco Caffe is a relatively new restaurant under the same team that manages Spruce and Alkaff Mansion. So we had pretty high expectations of the place, especially when we adore Spruce. Spruce's ahi tuna tartare is one of the best things in this world. Haha.

So here we were, one weekday evening, at Raeburn Park. Parco Caffe is situated in an office building. Parking is readily available in the carpark or you can park by the side of the road and walk into the place too.

Assortment of bread with olive oil and balsamic vinegar. Complimentary starter.
The bread were warmed to the right temperature and they were really soft. They were fragrant and great on their own without the dip. Pretty good I must say!

Iced cafe latte for me
The latte was good. It had a natural sweetness that does not require the addition of sugar.

Ossobuco -$30
Slow braised veal ossobuco with saffron risotto

This dish was a mixture of strong spices and flavours. The bone marrow was soft and nice and the veal was pretty tender too. However, the taste was too overwhelming. If you're not a fan of strong flavours or spices, I suggest that you opt for something else!

Lemon Honey Kurobuta Rib -$28
Japanese pork rib tossed in lemon honey sauce served with asparagus.

The first bite I had of the rib was pretty divine. It was really tender and sweet. It made me happy right away! However I can't say the same for the second piece of rib as it was overcooked. The meat was too tough and it was difficult to not only cut but bite into the meat. Also, the portion may be pretty small for some.

It was a pleasant evening at Parco Caffe. The restaurant is pretty and service was good. I called to make a reservation earlier on in the day and the person on the other line asked if it was for any special occasion and what kind of ambience do I prefer. It's nice that they take their customers' preferences into account! We''ll be back to try their weekend brunch sometime!

Beach Road Scissors Cut Curry Rice

There are so many cute cafes and stylish restaurants here in Singapore that it is often easy to forget we also have some of the best hawker fares in the world! And its been awhile since we last blogged about places aside from restaurants , so here's one - Beach Road Scissor-Cut Curry Rice.

If you have hunger pangs during the wee hours of the night, this is the place to go. As you can see from the picture below, it operates from 11am to 3.30 am which should be late enough for most supper goers. Beach road scissor-cut curry rice is located among the shop houses at Jalan Besar near Mustafa shopping centre. The place is rather old and has this 'old school' feel about it which I think my parents can relate to.

What they sell are some fried ingredients, braised meat and vegetables. Their more well-known dishes are the braised pork and pork/chicken chop. After adding your selected dishes to the rice they will then douse loads of curry and braised sauce over the rice to make it look like the picture below.

Photobucket
Some might find it hard to like the food if you love your rice untainted or if you hate your food to look like a giant mess. But the taste of the entire mixture might change what you think. The curry they use is Hainanese style which is a bit sticky gooey but not very spicy. As all curry does, it goes well with the rice. The rest of the dishes are really just supplementing the taste.

We spent about SGD $7 for the both plates so it is value for money I would say. K and I went there one late night and it was raining heavily. And with each mouthful I took, the heat from the curry provided much needed warmth for the tummy. Perfect comfort food to have on a cold day.

Venezia (Guthrie House)

Venezia is not somewhere we would blog about unless its exceptional or, an utter disappointment. So guess which way are we heading?

I sent Waffles for grooming at Royalville and it was raining so X, XM and I decided to head to Guthrie for some waffles and icecream loving at Venezia.

So here we were, at the counter trying out different flavours and the only staff at work was busy doing her own things and not really attending to us. Is it not courtesy to serve your customers first before returning to any tasks of any sort? She handed us a sample, returned to whatever she was doing, and upon us saying "excuse me", did she return to attend to us. This happened a few times. And she never smiled and never made us feel welcomed.

We did not have to wait very long before the Waffles arrived.
They look pretty different from how I remembered them to be.

Waffle with belgian chocolate icecream

Photobucket
Waffle with bananas, salty caramel and cookies and cream.
Reminds me of why people say looks can be deceiving.

We were given the wrong icecream and hence, X returned to the counter to inform the staff about it. The staff adamantly said and re-emphasized that we ordered cookies and cream. After a while of that little drama, she finally asked if we wanted to change it and yes we did. So, she scooped away the icecream from the waffle, threw it away, and replaced it with a scoop of crunchy nut. We're not being cheapo here but don't they usually just leave the icecream on your plate if they gave you the wrong flavour? But yeah okay.

Next, onto the waffles. The waffles were served at room temperature. Not even warmed up at all. And they were soft and hollow. What happened to the crispy and fluffy waffles they used to have?

Well, at least not everything sucked. XM and X liked the belgian chocolate icecream and I liked my salty caramel.

But we were extremely disappointed with their waffles, and not to mention, the service.

Gonna tell my mum never to patronise this outlet anymore.

(CLOSED) MU Parlour

Mu Parlour is the latest addition to Holland Village, which is home to many eateries. It caught our eyes as we were walking from Sushi Tei to the carpark after dinner one night. It looked pretty from where we were and the interior design did not disappoint when we finally visited it.

Brick walls and cement floors. Love it

From what seemed to be rustic and old, we emerged into a room that is very charming.

The elaborate play of three colours wormed its way into our hearts.
How can we not be captivated by this?

Hot chocolate- $3.50
This was pretty disappointing. I dislike Hershey's chocolate sauce and this tasted just like it.

Iced Cafe Latte - $6
The coffee was strong and fragrant.
X enjoyed his coffee!

Number 11 : Avocado, streaky bacon, MU secret sauce - $15
You can choose the type of cheese that you want!
I chose emmental cheese

The patty, accompanied by the interesting MU secret sauce was pretty tender and it was not tough to chew. The fries, topped with seasoning and a little minced meat, were quite good.

Photobucket
Number 1 : Monterey Jack, Streaky bacon, gherkin - $14
X felt that his burger was decent.
However, we both felt that the buns which tasted like the ones that Mcdonalds' serve were not very appetizing. Buns play an extremely crucial role in burgers and for a homemade gourmet burger, we expected more.

Toilet.

Perhaps many still do not know of this newly opened restaurant as it was empty that night. The place is beautiful and we enjoyed the ambience and music. Service was efficient and the staff asked us how the burgers were. However, we have to say that the food is not up to mark.
