The Flying Pan Blue @ Itaewon (Seoul)

The Flying Pan is a popular brunch spot in Itaewon! By this time, we've gotten addicted to the use of taxis because it is really cheap. Haha so we took a cab from Hongdae to Itaewon. The Flying Pan is extremely easy to locate as it sits in the popular food street where there are numerous restaurants.

Iced Maple Latte - 7000
I could hardly taste the maple. Even though the coffee was pretty sweet. But there was a strong taste of cinnamon.

Eggs Royale - 16,000
The poached eggs were not exactly well-cooked. One egg was slightly runny while the other was not runny at all. The butter was really delicious and the bread was fragrant and yummy. The 2 pieces of smoked salmon were huge! This dish comes with potato salad(behind the tomato) too! The portion is really big compared to what we get in Singapore! I really enjoyed it despite the eggs haha

The Flying Pan Breakfast - 16,000
Look at the pile of mushrooms haha. They were soaked in balsamic vinegar which was interestingly yummy initially.  The bread was unavoidably soaked in the balsamic vinegar too, and the fragrance of the bread was masked sadly. The sourness of the vinegar became overwhelming after awhile. This dish comes with greens, tomato, and potato salad like the Eggs Royale.

Brunch at The Flying Pan is not exactly cheap but I feel that it's pretty worth the money for the taste, uniqueness and portion. Also, the menu is pretty extensive. They have pancakes and french toasts too. Would give it a shot again when I return to Korea!

Directions:
From Exit 2 of Itaewon subway station, walk straight for a few metres and make a left turn once you come across a turning. Walk up the slope and you'll see the restaurant on your right, shortly.

Cafe Chloris @ Sinchon (Seoul)

Located in Sinchon, along the same stretch as AtoZ Cafe and My Secret Mate is a very pretty cafe, Cafe Chloris. There are two of them located on the same street, but a few shop spaces away from each other.

We were waiting for our friends to head to Noraebang so we decided to have tea first even though it was almost 7 haha

Chocolate Cheesecake- 4500
This was not too bad. It wasn't overly cheesy and the texture was smooth

Caramel Mochaccino
This was a huge cup! The drink was alright. Not something that I'd go back to the restaurant for.

Cafe Chloris is an elaborately pretty place where you can spend a nice, cozy afternoon. Don't have too high an expectation for their menu though. Also, every individual is expected to order an item.

(Closed) Pal Ja Mak Chang : Running Man's Ha Ha's Restaurant @ Hongdae

This is the famous restaurant opened by Ha Ha of Running Man. And guess where it is located? About 8 minutes, on foot, from our apartment. Can I please rave about how awesome our apartment is again? Hahaha

We got there at about 5pm and the staff were still having dinner. So we were asked to take a seat first while we waited for them to finish their dinner so they can take our orders.

The sauce that the onions were in was good!

Photobucket

The restaurant is famous for innards.
Photobucket
They have different sauces that you're supposed to eat with different things. Actually, on the menu, there is only one type of meat(pork). Everything else is innards. So we ordered 2 portions of pork and one portion of pig intestines. So there's a sauce to be eaten with the innards, and a sauce to be eaten with the pork. The staff will tell you which is for which!

Photobucket

Photobucket
The intestines seemed to be cooked really fast but actually it takes a longer time than the meat to be cooked!

Photobucket
How the intestines should look before they can be eaten.

They are really crispy! Quite yummy but some might not like the taste!

Bean paste soup and rice

Photobucket
Scorched rice - which is essentially porridge

The meat was pretty succulent and nice. X really liked the intestines haha. I'm not that big a fan of it or he'd have definitely ordered cow's intestines or something to try. We ate the scorched rice with a bit of the bean paste soup and the bean paste sauce and we actually managed to finish the huge pot. Haha this was the most expensive barbecue we've had the entire trip. It cost 30,000 won. But it's really worth it for all that we ate!

Cafe Berlin @ Hongdae (Seoul)

Cafe Berlin has gotta be one of my favourite cafes. It is located at the back of Hongdae, near Hongik University. You'll have to walk quite a distance from the university to get to Cafe Berlin. That whole stretch has plenty of nice cafes!

X and I came here on a Monday afternoon and it was pretty packed. Most of the people were studying. I can understand why this place is so popular. The vibe and atmosphere just feels really nice.

Affogato - 7500 won
This was really awesome! The icecream was delicious and really smooth. This has gotta be one of the best affogatos around! Together with the fragrant coffee and roasted nuts, this affogato certainly left a deep impression on us

Photobucket
Caramel macchiato - 6000 won
This was a huge glass of coffee. Not too bad!

Photobucket
Ham and cheese sandwich - 7500
This is pretty pricey for a sandwich. But the ingredients were fresh and though simple, it was quite palatable. Or maybe we were just hungry haha

Cafe Berlin would definitely be one of my favourite haunts if it was in Singapore. Love the laidback feel of the cafe and its rustic charm.

22nd.

I turned 22 today.
And I was wonderfully and pleasantly surprised.
All the birthday wishes received in every form of technology made me feel really blessed and lucky [:
Thanks everyone!

Yesterday, I'd thought that X had forgotten my birthday.
Well, we're in Korea and all and he has 3 exams in 2 days time so I thought that he might have forgotten my birthday.
We were at a cafe till 11pm last night because he needed to study. We had dinner after and headed home. The clock struck 12 when we were walking home and he didn't wish me happy birthday so I was even more sure than he'd forgotten haha. We got home at about 1210 and I went into the apartment first. And to my surprise, X's friends who are my new found friends surprised me with a baskin robbins icecream cake! Hahaha I was really thankful. I mean, we've just known each other for about 2 weeks and here they were, taking precious time off studying and surprising me all the way in Hongdae! Haha thank you fatty for organising [: And a big thank you to all my nice friends for the surprise! [:

Today, I met X after his class for dessert at Peony. After which he said we have to go home to change and that we aren't supposed to eat anymore till 630 because we're going to a food fest at Lotte Departmental Store. I was thinking why we have to dress up hahaha. So anyway he wore like pretty formal stuff so I was suspecting that we're going somewhere nice for dinner but he said "you confirm think we're going somewhere fancy right. But we're really going to the food fest. Later when you hear me telling the taxi driver Lotte, then you'll believe me" Haha I was like okay, food fest it is! Quite cool what right to go for food fest haha even though I've never been to one. So when we arrived at Lotte Hotel, I was still thinking that we were going for the food fest at the convention centre... Haha turns out that X had reserved a table at Pierre Gagnaire at the 35th level for my birthday dinner! And he had done the reservation before I even arrived in Korea. That's like more than a month ago. Hahaha I'm honestly immensely touched [: So anyway, Pierre Gagnaire is a three Michelin star chef! So you can imagine how happy and excited I was hahaha. And we had a window seat! The view was quite pretty and the food was unique, interestingly juxtaposed and awesome. The foie gras was amazing and life-changing haha. I had an incredibly nice and memorable evening [:

Will do up a post on Pierre Gagnaire soooooon!

Despite feeling extremely old now, I am infinitely thankful as I count my blessings. Looking forward to all the birthday celebrations when I get back to Singapore! [: But at the same time, dreading having to leave Kool Korea haha

Thanks for all the surprises X! [: You're the best hahaha
