Prep time : 10 minutes
Waiting time : 2 hours
Cooking time : 15 minutes

Ingredients :

For French Toast :

  • Shokupan (I got mine from Desem bakery)
  • 4 large eggs (I used Chew's Omega 3 Fresh Eggs)
  • 2 tablespoons sugar (I used SIS caster sugar)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (I used Lee Kum Kee)
  • 200ml cooking cream (I used Emborg)

For Pan-Frying :

  • Butter (I used Lurpak)

Toppings :

  • Maple syrup (I used Hampton House)
Optional toppings:
  • Whipped cream
  • Icing sugar
  • Berries
  • Banana

Steps :

  1. Trim edges off shokupan and slice it into 6-8 pieces
  2. Mix eggs, sugar, soy sauce, and cooking cream with a whisk or electric mixer till well combined
  3. Place sliced shokupan in egg mixture in a flat pan, let shokupan soak up the egg custard for 2 hours in the fridge(very important!!!)
  4. Melt butter in frying pan over low heat, add shokupan to pan.
  5. Check the bottom of the bread occasionally, turn up heat a little to get a nice brown char
  6. Flip over and do the same for all edges
  7. Serve with maple syrup, and optional toppings if you like

Enjoy!!!
