Odette - Is an 8-Course Dinner for 2 at This 3 Michelin-Starred Restaurant Worth $931.01?

photo Odette two michelin stars.jpg
Helmed by Chef Julien Royer, Odette is a 3-year-old fine-dining restaurant that has been awarded 2 Michelin stars in just its first year of operations. Inspired by Chef Julien's grandmother, Odette, Odette has debuted on Asia's 50 Best Restaurants at 9th place — the highest new entry of all time. And the Best Restaurant in Singapore has also made Singapore proud by ranking 28th in The World's 50 Best Restaurants in 2018. If you've been to Jaan, you'll know that Chef Julien is brilliant, and exceptional in his craft. Sending out contemporary French cuisine in a tastefully decorated space in National Gallery, Chef Julien works under the watchful eye of the world, and aims to deliver what one would expect from an esteemed dining destination that has 2 of the most precious and prestigious stars to its name.

I celebrated my birthday at Odette, and did I feel that the $931.01 bill for 2 people was worth it? Well, read on to find out.

(CLOSED)Maggie Joan's - Turning 3 with a New Chef and New Menus!

 photo Maggie Joans mediterranean.jpg
If you're a foodie, you'll definitely have, at the very least, heard of Maggie Joan's. Well, it was my first time here, and I have to say that I was blown away. Chef Seumas Smith, the new head chef, has popped over from Moosehead, and is now at the helm of Maggie Joan's. I really like the food at Moosehead, so I know that I was in for a treat at Maggie Joan's too. Using the finest seasonal ingredients from artisanal producers in the creation of every dish, where every component is made from scratch, Chef Seumas brings out the best of every ingredient in his own magical way. I assure you that you'll walk out of Maggie Joan's utterly satisfied, and already planning for a return visit.

Botanico at The Garage - New Chef, New Locally-Inspired Creations

 photo Botanico botanics dinner 8.jpg
Ever since Botanico opened its doors, it has been on my list of recommended places to go. Set amidst lush greenery, the restaurant is perfect for romantic dates, intimate family dinners, and those who just want to kick back and relax over cocktails and wine. With a new chef at its helm, Botanico has moved towards a more locally-inspired menu that is heavily influenced by Asian flavours, and built with botanical elements. The outstanding Seabass Ceviche($17), which is Chef Su's interpretation of Assam Laksa, left a really deep impression. Diced seabass is brilliantly put together with tamarind-dressed glass noodles, and a scoop of shrimp paste icecream. If there's only one dish that you can have from the menu, this has to be it. I promise that you'll fall in love with it on the very first bite

EN Sakaba - Hotpot Buffet with FREE FLOW A5 Miyazaki Wagyu & Zuwai Queen Crab

 photo En Sakaba Hotpot Buffet.jpg
EN Sakaba should be quite a familiar name by now. With multiple outlets across the island, the modern izakaya has attracted throngs of people with an attractive array of Japanese dishes that include chirashi don and yakiniku don. However, do you know that the best thing that EN Sakaba has to offer is actually their hotpot buffet which comes with a free flow of A5 Champion Miyazaki Wagyu, Zuwai Queen Crab, and Iberico Pork? This buffet was previously priced at $108 but is now going at just $78/pax. It's basically an insane deal that will leave you utterly satisfied and rubbing your tummy in glee.

Morton's Steakhouse Singapore - An All New Sunday Lunch Menu

photo Mortons Sunday Lunch Steak.jpg
My favourite steakhouse has spiced up their Sunday Lunch Menu with tantalising new additions that will charm your socks off. Apart from the droolworthy selection of Morton's specialties and prime steaks, Morton's has kept their value-for-money three-course lunch set which goes for $98++.

Exciting new dishes include Short Rib Tacos and Beef Tenderloin Sandwiches. Morton's also pays homage to the all-time favourite BLT, with their rendition of Crab Cake BLT. Morton's might be known for their steak, but they are quite the master when it comes to seafood too. I tried their Honey-Balsamic Glazed Salmon Fillet before, and was utterly mesmerized.

The Summerhouse - The Ultimate Garden Paradise Offers New Experiences

 photo The Summerhouse domes.jpg
The Summerhouse has just turned one, and the past year has been a glorious one indeed. Stepping into its second year, The Summerhouse has introduced attractive transformations, and is offering more enchanting experiences. The Summerhouse Garden Domes, which are dressed in Bohemian, Scandinavian, or Lounge themes, have been really popular since their launch. Numerous marriage proposals have been held in them, and you can imagine how in demand the domes were when Valentine's Day came around. The edible garden has also blossomed spectacularly, and has been an essential source of ingredients for the culinary team which has just refreshed their menu.

(CLOSED) Le Binchotan - Amazing Japanese-French Creations with a Rich Smokiness

photo Le Binchotan uni  caviar.jpg
Le Binchotan has been around for awhile now, but the new chef-owner, Jeremmy, who have had stints at Iggy's and Sola, has refreshed things, injected more goodness into the food, and is bringing even more to the table. The name Le Binchotan is a combination of a French word, and a Japanese word, and this captures the essence of the restaurant perfectly. The restaurant specialises in Japanese-French flavours that are elevated with a trademark smokiness that can only be achieved with the use of binchotan, a rare and expensive charcoal.

Beauty in the Pot - Newest and Biggest Outlet at OneKM Mall

photo Beauty in the pot onekm 10.jpg
Beauty in the Pot is possibly Singapore's favourite hotpot place. I've eaten here countless of times, and I remain addicted to their Signature Beauty Collagen Soup, and Fried Beancurd Skin. There were times that I travelled all the way from my home in the west to Centrepoint in the wee hours of the morning just because I had to satiate those intense cravings. Many would compare Beauty in the Pot to Hai Di Lao, which isn't unusual. I am a huge fan of Hai Di Lao too, having first tried it back in 2013. I love their tomato soup, and their fish slices, and I've dined there numerous times too. However, in all honesty, ever since I've tried BITP, I have only been to HDL once, because I was already at Clarke Quay. Are you a huge fan of BITP too? If so, you'll be pleased to know that they have opened their largest outlet, yet, at OneKM mall, just a level above their very first outlet in Singapore.

Sushi Jin - One of the Best Omakase Dinners in Singapore

 photo Sushi Jin Omakase 1.jpg
I'm not an expert when it comes to omakase dinners, especially when I haven't dined at the big names. Shinji, Hashida, Sushi Jiro, and Shoukouwa are on my list but till my bank account is fuller, I won't be able to indulge in a dinner at any of these establishments. I have, however, been on the lookout for awesome omakase dinners that come with a more pocket-friendly price tag. In recent times, I've dined at Ryo Sushi twice, and Hakumai. And now, Sushi Jin by the Les Amis Group.

Wan Hao - Best Restaurant for Reunion Dinner this Chinese New Year

photo Wan Hao Marriott CNY 1.jpg
Wan Hao, the resident Chinese restaurant at Singapore Marriott Tang Plaza Hotel is one of the top Chinese restaurants on our little red dot, and also one of Singaporeans' absolute favourite. Every year, Wan Hao is completely booked throughout all 15 days of the Lunar New Year. It shouldn't come as a surprise, though, because the famous restaurant is amazing at what they do — every dish is thought through carefully, prepared with love, and meticulously assembled.

Moosehead - Extraordinary Mediterranean Cuisine in the CBD

 photo Moosehead Amoy 5.jpg
Telok Ayer Street is home to many restaurants but none stands out quite the way Moosehead does. A champion of Mediterranean cuisine, Moosehead continuously sends out hearty and delicious small plates which are built by Chef Seumas, who helms the kitchen. Chef's Seumas' creative mind and refined palate enables him to bring together different elements like they are all pieces that belong to the same jigsaw puzzle. Every dish is a beautiful ensemble of lovely flavours and a showcase of fine produce.

The Octopus($30) sees sliced tentacles of New Zealand octopus cooked sous-vide style and grilled on binchotan until the outer edges are crispy-crunchy. Crispy fried potato, red pepper puree, paprika, extra virgin olive oil and chives are part of the cast. The colourful dish is not just a sight to behold, but it will definitely please your palate too. I've had numerous grilled octopus dishes before, but they are often too charred for my liking. This was perfect, and quite possibly my favourite octopus dish to date.

WAKANUI Grill Dining Singapore - Delicious Ocean Beef and Spring Lamb!

 photo Wakanui Marina One 6.jpg
WAKANUI is a big name in Tokyo, and should be no stranger to all who have been to Tokyo and were in search of a great steakhouse. I chanced upon WAKANUI when I was in Tokyo, but unfortunately did not get a chance to dine there, so imagine my joy when I realised that the very WAKANUI at Marina One (the only overseas franchise) is almost an exact replica of the one in Tokyo. WAKANUI is situated on the fourth level of the West Tower of Marina One — in a glass capsule — and is designed by the same architect who designed the Tokyo restaurant. Japanese influences can be observed throughout the restaurant and muted earthy hues have been brought together brilliantly to create a beautiful restaurant that exudes a captivating calmness and serenity. The interior of the restaurant might be largely Japanese, but the menu is all about the freshest and the best from New Zealand.
