A Short Getaway to Kuala Lumpur

 photo Petaling Street KL.jpg

Compared to our sunny island Singapore, Malaysia is enormous. Our neighbour has no lack of food or entertainment options too. The close proximity allows us to visit anytime we want – be it a short drive over the causeway for a movie, haircut, or lok lok, or a quick one hour flight to Kuala Lumpur. Widely known for their food streets and night markets, Malaysia plays host to millions of tourists from all over the world yearly. The capital, Kuala Lumpur, draws the most crowd. It’s not difficult to understand why, especially when the streets are lined with restaurants, and street food options, and there are numerous huge shopping malls to hang out at.

Happifi - Possibly the Best Pocket Wifi for Your Holiday

photo Happifi portable wifi Singapore 2.jpg

There are a ton of companies offering portable wifi devices. Some at cut throat prices, but is the connection really reliable? There are data sim card options too but the amount of data is limited, and if you go on a really long holiday, like I did, the data sim might not be valid for the entire duration. I was going to Japan for a month and I looked through so many options. None of the data sim cards covered my entire holiday. And those that came remotely close to doing so (like 21 days) offered really low amount of data or are quite ridiculously expensive.

麻布十番松栄寿司 Azabujuban Matsueizushi - New & Fantastic Sushi Omakase in Azabujuban (Tokyo)

photo iPiccy-collage.jpg
I just came back from a month in Japan and one of the best meals that I've had in Tokyo was at this relatively new sushi restaurant in Azabujuban. In total, I spent 25 days in Tokyo in 2 trips, and I had tons of good food, so you can have a rough idea of the standard that you can expect here. The restaurant is located on the third level so you gotta keep your eyes peeled for the signboard as you walk along the streets. The 23-seater sports a contemporary look, ruled by darker colours.

New Launch Project or Resale Unit?

 photo Picture1.png

New projects such as new launch condos are developments under construction. These properties have not yet been built, and developers sell their units off the floor plan. Sometimes, the developer builds show suites or a mock-up of the layout to help prospective buyers visualize the space and placement of furniture.

On the other hand, resale units are completed properties, and buyers go into the actual unit to inspect and observe what they are going to buy.

La Madrague - Gigantic Egg Sandwiches on a Quiet Street in Kyoto

photo La Madrague Kyoto. 2.jpg
The star here is, no prizes for guessing it right, the ginormous egg sandwiches. Each order comes with four fist-sized egg-bread packages. The omelette is not exactly fluffy, I found it to be on the denser side, but the portion is irrefutably generous. Slathered with a thin layer of tomato sauce, the egg sandwich wasn't mind-blowing but it's, no doubt, satisfying. I really liked the steamed white bread though!

The Roastery by Nozy Coffee - Charming Rustic Cafe in Omotesando

photo The Roastery by Nozy Coffee 3.jpg

Luke's Lobster(Omotesando) - Best Lobster Roll?

photo Lukes Lobster Omotesando 2.jpg
People rave about Luke's Lobster all the time and I was all ready to give it a try. All the way from New York, the snug little booth in the popular Omotesando area is familiar to snaking long queues and throngs of tourists. The queue was super long, unfortunately, when I got there and we queued for close to an hour for these babies. We decided to get a trio of sandwiches so we had a variety of seafood to savour. Shrimp, crab and lobster!

Sushi Sei Honten - Fresh and Affordable Sushi

photo Sushi Zanmai Tsukiji Tokyo 2.jpg
When I talk about the famous Tsukiji Fish Market in Tokyo, almost everyone starts raving about Sushi Dai or Sushi Daiwa. I wasn't prepared to start queuing at 4am in the morning for either of these two popular sushi restaurants so I decided to find something as good, without the insane queue. This was how I discovered Sushi Sei Honten, a two-storey restaurant in Tsukiji.

#WTF - The New Kid at 49 Club Street

 photo wtf 49 club street.jpg
So, 49 Club Street used to be the home of Drinks & Co, a place where I frequent more than I would like to admit. Drinks & Co has shifted a few doors down, with a refreshed concept. In its place is now #WTF. I wanted to have a look at their menu but the place seemed packed so I didn't really want to go in but one of their staff spoke to us and told us that there is no service charge here. Now, I have to go in and have a look, right?

Tamashii Robataya - Best Beef Bowl, Best Yusheng and Yummy Omakase

 photo Tamashii Robataya Yu Sheng.jpg
I've had quite a number of yusheng platters this year but little did I expect to find my absolute favourite at a Japanese restaurant. The truffle-infused yusheng comes with salmon sashimi, yellow tail sashimi, surf clam salad, jellyfish, salmon soft skull and house-made crab crackers. Apart from the incorporation of more uncommonly-seen ingredients, another noteworthy feature is the crab crackers which were unbelievably addictive. The truffle sauce binds every ingredient together flawlessly and while some may find this a little too sweet, it was perfect for me. This was the first time that I've witnessed an entire plate of yusheng cleaned out. Well, it comes as no surprise. I loved it!

Nui - A Charming Cafe & Bar in Asakusa

photo Nui Hostel Asakusa Tokyo 2.jpg
When I was in Tokyo, I made a few friends who arranged for a quick dinner at Nui before I flew home to Singapore. Nui is located in the quiet Asakusa district and it took us quite awhile to find it. The entire neighbourhood was so quiet by 7pm that we wondered if we were on the right track. The lively atmosphere in Nui was in stark contrast to the cold silent night just outside its doors.

Dominique Ansel Bakery(Tokyo) - Extraordinary Frozen Smore

photo Dominique Ansel Tokyo 1.jpg
It has been my dream to visit Dominique Ansel in New York, but since I can't make it to the States as of yet, I set my sights on the nearest outlet in Tokyo. I've heard so much about the cookie shots and frozen smores and the legendary kouign amann and I just couldn't wait to come here! It was an arduous and incredibly long wait but I finally made it here. One off the bucket list!
